The Full Story
While in Ocean City, MD on a family vacation, Mike Turkin walked into a gym to get in his workout for the day. One of the experienced members of the gym took Mike under his wing and taught him the secrets of the fitness world and the world of bodybuilding. With an eagerness to share this love of health and fitness with others, Mike opened the first Atlas Personal Trainers studio in a basement in Parkville in 2005. From there, Atlas blossomed. The clientele was building, group classes were expanding, and bodybuilding competitors started training for competitions.
Where we began...
It's amazing how much gym equipment you can fit into the basement of a small building. Our studio in Parkville, MD was fully equipped with free weights, barbells, cages, squat machines, boxing equipment, resistance bands, and almost everything else you can think of when it comes to personal fitness. Even in such a small space, the clients and trainers worked together to make every session a meaningful experience. Though there may have been some flooding from the basement windows during the summer rainstorms, we always managed to keep things running smoothly. Eventually though, it was time for us to get out of the basement and begin "movin' on up" - literally!
Moving to Kingsville...
A lot of people would just pay contractors to come do all the work, but that's just not our style. While the contractors did the "fancy" work, our team of trainers came together to hang mirrors, build walls, paint, lay the floors...you get the idea. The hardest part of our move was that it was during the end of 2020 when the pandemic was still a big concern for people. Regardless of the challenges, Mike was able to open the doors to the new facility in January of 2021. We are proud to call our Kingsville location "home."
